Vetkoek

Vetkoek

Vetkoek

Simple, golden, and deeply nostalgic. This is the kind of food that doesn’t try to be anything else.

Ingredients

1. Vetkoek Dough

  • 2 cups cake flour (± 250 g)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¾–1 cup lukewarm water

2. Frying

  • Oil, for deep frying

Instructions

In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

Gradually add the lukewarm water, mixing until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

I like to let my dough rise for about an hour, then I divide it to equal portions, this recipe make 8 medium sized Vetkoeke. Then I let them rise again for about 30/45min before frying.

Heat oil over medium heat in a deep pan or pot.

Fry until golden brown, turning to cook evenly on both sides until fully cooked through.

Remove and drain on paper towel.

Serving Suggestions
